"Hotel Rwanda" at Movies 8

You can find out more about it here.

If you haven't seen it I recommend it highly. My wife and I saw it tonight and were floored by it. It is a needed break from the endless chain of entertainments that is so much of American life, to say nothing of a Saturday night in Provo. (It was interesting to see the usual kids there and wonder how they ended up at this particular movie, whether they knew about it going in, etc. Judging by some of their reactions and lack therof, I'd have to say for many the answer was no).

The subtitle should be "The Real Book of Mormon Movie" because it shows in an unforgettable way how high the stakes can be in life and the important role we as Christians must play in the world. It's movies like this that make you understand why the medium of film was revealed in the first place. The fact that it even showed in Provo/Orem is the direct result of the passion the producers had that it be seen by as many people as possible.

This kind of movie supplies a big part of what an education should be, but that is unfortunately appreciated less and less as we mistakenly de-emphasize the humanities in favor of job training. Enough of my soapbox. Go see this movie while you still can. It's only $1.50. It would make a great date if you know someone intelligent to take.

Based on a true story...

I believe that the movie is based on a true story, which makes it even more incredible.

That's right. Or as it says in the opening credits: "This is a true story".

Will do. Is it rated R? I'm just wondering. There are a couple R movies I want to see. The Passion, Fahrenheit 9/11, and this (if it is in fact R).

Hotel Rwanda trailer

Here's the trailer. It looks like a wonderful movie.

My roommate--who served in South Africa--is excited to see it.

It's rated PG-13 for "violence, disturbing images, and brief strong language."
