Go ahead, call us cowboys

It makes me smile when Euros--or better yet, North Koreans--try to smear the U.S. or Pres. Bush as "cowboys" because of our foreign policy, and the general way we do things.

As this Opinion Journal article points out, we shouldn't feel insulted when they throw out this term because the cowboy embodies the industrious and self-reliant attitude our country was founded on.

It's a little long, but worth reading.

(BTW - The article is not meant as a slam on our Canadian friends; it's just the contrast and proximity in this example that highlights the uniqueness of the United States.)
