Mormon Moviestars and the Dark Knight - a long-term example

There have been quite a few posts here about the decline in morality associated with Mormons being in the entertainment industry.

But did you know one of your favorite stars from the "Dark Knight" set the standard for the industry long before the big boom of "Mormon Movies?"

Check out the article on Wikipedia about Aaron Eckhart.

Highlights from the article include:

  • He had a Latter-day Saint upbringing.
  • He took three years off after high school to surf in Hawaii and to serve a mission for the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in France and Switzerland
  • He enrolled as a film major at Brigham Young University, graduating in 1994
  • Eckhart appeared in the Mormon-themed film Godly Sorrow (check your seminary tapes!)
  • After graduating from BYU, he appeared in several beer commercials (sound familiar?)
  • Has acted in very explicit sex scenes, notably in his role as a tobacco lobbyist in "Thank You for Smoking"

  • I guess his role as "two-face" in the Dark Knight might have a bit of a double-meaning eh? :-P

And he tried to do a play version of "in the company of men" at BYU. Needless to say, he was never able to do it.

Great movie though. Not for the squeamish.

    Stop bagging on Kirby!

I'm sick of people bagging on Kirby Heyborne for working hard and providing for his family. He didn't drink the beer. Why does everyone feel like he committed some mortal sin? I know plenty of bishops who own grocery stores or other places that serve alcohol and their standing in the church is just fine. Larry Miller sells tons of beer at the ESA and nobody seems to mind.

Aaron Eckhart was already way off the straight and narrow before his beer commercial. He was a notorious lady's man while at BYU, and I don't just mean lip action. Kirby still is active in the church and I hope that he's able to have success in Hollywood.
